Vodafone Birthday Campaign – Hyper-Personalized Birthday Videos in Real Time
🎉 Outstanding Results: 54% Open Rate · 38% Click-Through Rate · 95% Video Plays
How do you make more than 20 million customers feel personally appreciated on their birthday? Vodafone answered this challenge with a groundbreaking hyper-personalized video campaign that combined emotional storytelling, real-time personalization and a seamless customer experience.
Each customer received an individual birthday video created specifically for them. The story begins with a young girl writing a birthday message on a piece of paper and folding it into a paper airplane. As the airplane takes off, it transforms into a digital data stream and embarks on a journey through the Vodafone network, across orbit and back to Earth, before arriving on the recipient's device as a fully personalized birthday greeting.
The experience was customized in real time using six individual data points integrated into both visuals and audio: name, birthday, region, city, street and device. This level of personalization created a unique and memorable customer experience for every recipient.
To make the surprise even more impactful, the video was linked to a personalized shopping voucher that was triggered in real time and delivered directly to the customer's inbox or WhatsApp account while watching the video. The voucher could be redeemed at one of approximately 1,500 Vodafone stores, effectively turning customer appreciation into measurable retail traffic.
The campaign achieved exceptional engagement rates and generated enthusiastic customer feedback. By combining personalized storytelling, real-time technology and a rewarding customer journey, Vodafone transformed a simple birthday greeting into an award-winning brand experience.
The project received Silver at the Annual Multimedia Award in the category "Digital Special Formats".
